Privacy policy

What ReadBooster accesses, how conversation content is processed, what may be stored locally, and what happens when you choose to send feedback.

Effective date — 9 August 2026
ReadBooster / PrivacyLocal-first processing

Scope

This policy applies to the ReadBooster browser extension and the ReadBooster public website. ReadBooster is designed to turn supported AI conversations into structured, readable document views.

The current project version, 0.7.5, supports ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Mistral AI, and Claude conversations, with experimental support for GitHub Discussions. ReadBooster does not claim support for the broader web and does not require an account.

Version 0.7.3 is available through Firefox Add-ons. The public Chrome listing offers version 0.7.1 while the 0.7.3 update awaits Chrome Web Store review.

Plain-language summary: the extension reads the conversation page on your device so it can build the reader view. It does not automatically transmit your chat content to a ReadBooster server.

What page data ReadBooster accesses

When you activate ReadBooster on a supported AI platform, the extension accesses page content needed to create the document presentation. Depending on the conversation, this can include:

  • your visible prompts and the AI responses;
  • headings, paragraphs, lists, code blocks, links, citations, images, and tables;
  • the order and structure of conversation sections; and
  • basic page context needed to identify the supported platform and conversation.

ReadBooster processes this page content to render its reading interface. It would be inaccurate to say that no data is processed; the relevant conversation content is processed locally in the browser.

Local processing

Conversation extraction, formatting, outline generation, and reader presentation happen on the device where the browser extension is running. ReadBooster does not automatically send the extracted conversation content to a ReadBooster-operated server.

Reading fonts, including Fast Reading, are bundled locally with the extension. No external font service is contacted, and changing the reading style does not rewrite the underlying conversation text.

The original AI platform continues to operate under its own terms and privacy policy. ReadBooster does not control how that platform processes the conversation you have with it.

Local settings storage

ReadBooster may store preferences in browser-provided storage so your reading setup can be restored. These preferences can include theme, typography, spacing, reading-mode, and table-display choices.

Preferences, custom section titles, and Stickers are stored locally in your browser. These values support the extension interface; they do not change the original conversation on the AI platform or synchronize to other devices.

Apart from selected text and limited context saved for highlights, ReadBooster does not use this storage to retain complete conversation bodies or full conversation HTML.

Saved highlights

When you create a highlight, ReadBooster stores the selected text and limited context needed to find the passage again. That context may include a short prefix or suffix, character offsets, or structural information about the conversation section.

Highlight colour and restoration information are stored locally in browser-provided storage. They are not sent to ReadBooster servers. ReadBooster does not provide an account, cloud synchronization, or cross-device synchronization for highlights.

Deleting ReadBooster’s browser storage can remove saved highlights. Uninstalling the extension may also remove locally stored data, depending on the browser’s behaviour.

Browser permissions and website access

The only general browser permission requested by ReadBooster is storage. Website access is limited to the supported ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Mistral AI, and Claude origins and the GitHub Discussions pages used by experimental support, so the extension can detect eligible content and build the Reader locally.

ReadBooster does not include analytics, advertising, tracking, cloud synchronization, or server-side conversation processing.

Tally feedback

ReadBooster includes a link to an external feedback form provided by Tally. The form is not submitted automatically. Feedback is sent only after you deliberately open the form, choose what to include, and submit it.

Information submitted through that form is processed by Tally under Tally’s own privacy terms. Do not include conversation text, personal information, confidential material, or screenshots unless you intend to share them for feedback purposes.

Your responsibility for screenshots

If you attach a screenshot or paste conversation text into feedback, review it first. Remove names, account details, private prompts, client information, credentials, or other material you do not want to share. You decide what is included and are responsible for having the right to submit it.

Public website and external links

The ReadBooster website is a static GitHub Pages site. It does not include accounts, a payment system, a ReadBooster backend, or analytics or advertising added by this project.

The site links to external services such as AviCloud, browser extension stores, and Tally. Following an external link takes you to a service with its own terms and privacy practices. ReadBooster is not responsible for the content or privacy behavior of those external sites.

Future policy updates

This policy may be updated when ReadBooster’s capabilities, supported platforms, release process, or data handling changes. A revised policy will be published on this page with an updated effective date. Material changes should be reviewed before using the affected release.
